About Madelyn Ashley

As a nurse with over 35 years experience, Madelyn Ashley, RN, MSN has worked as a geriatric care manager for more than 10 years.  She graduated from the University of Virginia in 1975 earning a Bachelors in Science of Nursing and, in 1988, a Masters in Science of Nursing from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.  She has worked in hospitals and home care settings providing nursing care to adults with a variety of chronic and acute medical problems from Virginia to South Carolina back to Washington DC and then settling in North Carolina.

After graduate school she worked in the Department of Geriatrics at Bowman Grey Medical Center as the nurse for the Geriatric Assessment Clinic and Consult Service for Baptist Hospital.  She was the Director of the Wellness Program for the Orange County Department on Aging and taught as a clinical professor in the Nursing School at UNC-CH.  Her work as Project Director for the Abilities Focused Care of Veteran’s with Dementia at the Durham VA Hospital enhanced her understanding of care of individuals with dementia.  Her various roles in the Triangle area have allowed her to gain first hand knowledge of the variety of aging resources available to her clients.  She has taught workshops on aging and caring for older adults to help train health care professionals in the specific needs of the senior population.  She frequently gives talks to community organizations about issues related to caring for an aging family member and what to expect with aging.   She uses this knowledge to provide care in a compassionate way to her clients and their families.
